What is breast augmentation surgery?
Breast augmentation is clinically referred to as augmentation mammaplasty and on the street it can be called a boob job. Breast augmentation can increase fullness and projection of your breasts, balance your figure (not everyone is given two equally sized breasts), and enhance your self-image.
Breast augmentation also includes breast reconstruction post mastectomy and let’s not forget breast reduction which is also considered a breast augmentation surgery.
Types of Implants
If you’re looking for larger breasts quite often implants will be the recommended option When undergoing breast augmentation surgery, you will find many doctors with different opinions on which implant is best. There are :
• saline breast implants that are filled with sterile water this way if the implant should leak the implant will collapse and the saline will be absorbed naturally by the body
• silicone breast implants are filled with silicone gel the gel feels more like natural breast tissue and is designed so that if the implant leaks the gel may remain with in the implant shell or escape into the implant pocket
• gummy bear breast implants are very form stable the consistency of the silicone gel inside these implants is thicker than traditional silicone and they are thought to be less likely to break
Shapes of Implants
Round - The most common of the implant shapes (when it comes to breast augmentation) is the round implant, which looks like a compressed sphere. Different types of this implant can adjust the projection, which is the breasts’ forward distance from the chest wall. They come in four versions, varying from low projection to high projection. Women who wish to have more fullness in the top part of the breasts will probably consider the round implant to be a better choice.
Teardrop- the teardrop name comes from the way it is shaped, with a sloped contour that fills out more on the bottom than the top, mimicking the shape of natural breasts. Even though the upper part of the teardrop implants aren’t quite as filled out as the round implants, they tend to give greater projection than their round counterparts with the same amount of volume. Women who are seeking a breast enhancement that appears more natural, teardrop implants might be the right choice.
Textured breast implants are newer and designed to develop scar tissue to stick to the implant making them less likely to shift. Textured surface implants were originally developed with the hope in mind of reducing the rate of capsular contracture is a consequence of the immune system defending the patient’s bodily integrity and health (sort of rejecting the implant).
Smooth breast Implants implants are the traditional choice and are appealing in that the gel inside is cohesive which makes them the softest and ‘squishiest’ breast implants. This also nicely simulates natural breasts, but has the potential downside of contributing to implant displacement
Make sure you research all your options before proceeding with any cosmetic surgery.
