No sex or marriage question is too embarrassing because it is time to ask EmpowHer’s sexuality expert - Dr. Marty Klein, anything.
“Dear Dr. Klein, I am afraid I have a sexually transmitted disease. What should I do? And don’t tell me to talk to my mother because I don’t want to.”
Dr. Marty Klein:
Okay. What should you do if you think you have an STD? Well, what should you do if you think you have any infection or disease? You should go to a healthcare provider.
Now, if you don’t want to go to your regular doctor, say you are young and you don’t want your mother to find out, or say you are a big shot in the community and you don’t want word to get around. Well then, just go to Planned Parenthood and tell them exactly what your concerns are, both medically and in terms of privacy.
Planned Parenthood has a wonderful series of medical clinics all over the United States and they do very high quality work and they are very concerned with confidentiality. So, if you are concerned that you have a sexually transmitted disease, run, don’t walk, to your nearest clinic or to your own personal physician and just tell them what the symptoms are.
Is it itching? Is it burning? Is it oozing? Is it discoloration? Is it pain? And you know, if the person is a healthcare professional, they won’t judge you. They’ll just take a look at what it is and they will give you the news. And whatever the news is, you will feel better because you know.
