Ever since Nintendo released it, I've been wanting a Wii Fit. Finding one was a challenge. Santa's Daughter gave me one for Christmas, so I couldn't wait to fire it up. If you have been considering getting one, I give it a thumbs up because it's making getting/staying fit a lot of fun.
First of all, it's smart enough to know that you're fidgeting while it's trying to calculate your BMI, calibrate itself to your weight and find your center of balance. Next, it will take you through some preliminary training to teach you how to keep your center of balance within a certain zone. You get a report after each exercise how well you were able to keep your balance. I'm sorry to say, but not at all surprised, that I've been told many times that I'm unbalanced. It even asked if I trip over my own feet!
Admittedly, trying to start a weight loss program in the midst of a busy holiday season is probably bound to be unsuccessful. Nonetheless, as I have a marathon in 2 months, and the weather has been like a wild roller coaster ride from freezing cold to summer heat, I was looking for a way to keep up with my workouts without having to travel to the gym or face the weather from my back porch.
My personal goal is to develop stronger core strength, something I've had trouble with following two vertical C-sections. Trying to keep the little red dot within the little blue zone while going through various exercises and "games" is proving a serious challenge. BTW - I'm terrible at the downhill slalom and dodge ball.
There have been some stories circulating about people who have lost weight and toned up using the Wii Fit. Nintendo USA has an official experiment conducted by a fellow who lost 15 lbs in 41 days after daily use of the "game."
If you don't mind, I'd like to pop in, now and then, with my own progress report, although I'm sure I'll not be quite as methodical as Mickey.
