An article today about the number of women who die in pregnancy around the world really startled me. According to an article from The Nation nearly 500,000 women die each year while pregnant. The article says "90 per cent of these largely preventable deaths occur in developing countries."
But the article and the original report points out "that one in four women who die as a result of pregnancy and childbirth could be saved by effective access to contraception."
Another disturbing statistic from the report says "three of every five adults living with HIV/Aids in sub-Saharan Africa are women."
The reason? Women apparently lack the information they need regarding reproductive health.
While officials are aware of the issue, they don't seem to be meeting their goals.
