Have any of you had a chance to read Elizabeth Edwards' book "Resilience"? It's on my list of must-read books, once I get a few spare hours to sit down and read! But in the meantime, I've read excerpts in articles and saw Mrs. Edwards on Oprah Winfrey a few weeks back.
I admire Elizabeth Edwards in so many ways. She really chose a great title for her book as she is definitely one of the most resilient women I can think of. From losing a son to enduring cancer that is now terminal to dealing with her husband's infidelity and possible fathering a child with his mistress, she has been through so much and just keeps on going.
But I have to admit, I find myself wondering if coming out with the book and doing the interview was such a good idea. On one hand, I applaud her for speaking out and possibly inspiring others. But on the other hand, I know she's endured quite a bit of backlash from people saying "why not leave well-enough alone and why expose your children to all of this?" I would have to think that getting this negative response would have an adverse affect on her health.
What do you think? If you are terminally ill, with an fascinating and occasionally sordid story to share, do you do it in order to potentially help others who might also be battling cancer? Or do you focus on yourself and your children and keep quiet about things? Do you think her health will be affected by all of this?
