I am 21 years old and about 3 months ago I had a very bad eye infection which I was treating with antibiotic eye drops as well as steroid eye drops. I was using the drops a minimum of 4x a day started off at 8x a day for the first 3 days and continuing at 4x a day for the next month. After the first month I got a throat infection which is not odd for me. What alarmed me is that my tongue was yellow on the front and a little white in the back and I had a horrible taste in my mouth. I went to my doctor and I was prescribed an antibiotic for the throat infection and was told the discoloration on my tongue was from the bacterial infection. I took the antibiotic and the infection as well as the yellow went away but the white did not. I assumed it would fade within a few days but it did not. About 3 weeks after my doctor visit I went back and she then diagnosed me with Oral Thrush I was prescribed Troches (I do not remember the exact name) but I had to take them 5x a day for 14 days. I saw very little improvement within the first week. The second week I saw the front of my tongue was not very white anymore but the back was still very white. Once I finished the prescription the Thrush was still there. So i decided to wait awhile and see if once again it would fade away on its own which it did not. About a week later I tried some home remedies I found online. I tried making an apple cider vinegar mouth wash, rubbing garlic on my tongue and eating it, making a baking soda paste, eating yogurt and now I am trying acidophilus supplements because none of the others have worked. I have had the thrush for about two months and with all I have done I have seen little if no improvement. At times it will appear as if it is almost gone and then when I wake up or later in the day it as it was when it first started. My doctor is now recommending me to an oral surgeon. I do not have insurance and this has been a very costly issue. I just started the acidophilus supplements 4 days ago and I am hoping they work but in the mean time I would appreciate any advice or information anyone has.
