Period becoming irregular after 2 miscarriages. I am 38 trying to conceive. What is going on?

I am 38 and trying to get pregnant. Had 2 miscarriages. 1 on March and the 2nd on June. Started trying again on Aug. Cycle was 28 days, but didn't get pregnant. Tried again on Sept. but got period 5 days earlier. Cycle was only 23 days long.
