Fancy yourself a psychic, eh? And did your partner tell you of his uncanny ability to read minds like a Criss Angel magic trick? Didn’t think so.
Real humans typically aren’t capable of reading each other’s minds. Sure, you may sometimes be able to guess how your partner will react to something. But in most cases we have to communicate with each other in real words to know what the other is thinking. While it may seem mundane to ask your partner for the umpteenth time what he would like for dinner, or what she wants to do for an upcoming holiday, it’s necessary.
Surprises can be fun and exciting, but asking doesn’t mean you and your partner aren’t connected. It means that you respect his thoughts and wishes and want to know him better. Experience with relationships also doesn’t always play out the same from situation to situation. People are individuals, and relationships are a process. Enjoy it.
