Have you had an awkward sexual experience? Bedsider.org wants you to share it on Facebook and help reduce the rates of unplanned pregnancy.
The Inspiration Room wrote that Bedsider.org, an online birth control resource, has partnered with the Ad Council to release “Bedsider Confessions,” a new social media application that inspires people to share their sex fiascos.
Yes, fiascos, not sexual successes. Most people remember when a sexual escapade didn’t go so well. As MTV said, we can’t always have movie-quality sex. Big screen hanky-panky has carefully choreographed grace, strategic lighting and sexy soundtracks that don’t generally mirror real-life intimate encounters.
Found on Bedsider’s Facebook page, said PR Newswire, the Confessions app allows users to share their most funny, embarrassing and relatable romantic flops and review other submissions from their peers. People can submit these stories anonymously if they choose.
The Confessions app was designed to help emphasize the message: "You didn't give up on sex. Don't give up on birth control either." The free app hopes by using social media, it will make it easy and fun to openly talk about sex and birth control.
"It shows that although sex fails happen to all of us, we don't give up. The same is true for birth control. If your first experience isn't ideal, it's important to find the right method for you and not give up," Lawrence Swiader, Senior Director of Digital Media at The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy told PR Newswire.
PR Newswire said that the Confessions app also directs users to Bedsider’s free website where they can access information and resources about birth control.
Northeast Florida’s Healthy Start Coalition (Healthy Start) wrote that Bedsider.org was launched by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy (National Campaign), in response to studies showing 18-29 year olds know they should use birth control, but aren’t.
In the United States, 7 in 10 pregnancies among unmarried women age 18-29 are described by women themselves as unplanned. This is one of the highest levels in the entire developed world said PR Newswire.
Healthy Start also quoted findings from the Fog Zone, a National Campaign report. It found, despite vocalizing the importance of avoiding pregnancy, that more unmarried young adults don’t use contraception every time they have sex. Many were unfamiliar with common forms of birth control. And many think birth control doesn’t work.
Bedsider.org allows visitors to explore different methods of birth control and determine which one best fits their needs, wrote Healthy Start. It also includes a search feature to locate clinics and health centers that offer birth control.
