Does HIV Really Affect On Menopause?
Researcher are not letting anything un-turn about HIV. In a latest study they started their research on HIV and its effect on Menopause. In that study they first mentioned that women experience early menopause if they are HIV infected. Thus they are more prone to go through this phase early as compared to other women who are not HIV-infected.
Along with that they are at more risk of having heart attack and other heart issues. They also have low bone density and thus lead to have more chances of fracture. The treatment or therapy (ART- antiretroviral therapy) which is used for treating HIV also leads to increase the changes to these conditions in women.
Some More Studies:
Some research says that as menopause is the phase in women life where she don’t have period or bleeding and the ovary no longer produces any hormone. But when a woman has HIV and has now attended menopause, she may still have irregular bleeding. Thus they say that this menopause definition is not applicable to the HIV infected women.
The various symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, virginal dryness, night sweat, depression, etc. all get even worse when a woman is HIV infected. As already stated HIV plus menopause women have more chances of having heart diseases because the fat which is circulated in the blood which is known by the name Triglyceride is increased in high level in the body. Making the working of heart more difficult to pump oxygenated blood into your body and also blocking the arteries of the heart. Also the treatment ART for HIV also said to increase the chances of heart diseases.
Then the next thing was about the bone density and its effect when a woman is having HIV and the natural phase of life - the menopause. The studies says that it makes the bone density level low and thus makes bones more prone to fracture and other issues three times more than the women who has menopause but not HIV. They say that the use of Vitamin D and calcium in medical therapy helps women to improve their bone problem.
Ultimately, what matters is that the first interaction of patient and doctor. Then completing your whole treatment, do not stop treatment in middle; because many reports say women discontinue their medication.
Conclusion:
Overall, what we wanted to say is that there are different opinion of the doctors on HIV and its effect on Menopause. They say that a hard and thorough study is needed to fully analyze the effects of HIV on Menopause because till now there is not much information available on this topic.
