Mental health has always been a topic near and dear to me. Two important articles were recently published that go in-depth on global mental health that I would like to share with EmpowHER readers.
The first piece, "Psychiatric epidemiology and global mental health: joining forces" is an editorial written by Dr. Ezra Susser, GMHP Co-Director & Professor of Epidemiology at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health, and Dr. Vikram Patel, Co-Director of the Centre for Global Mental Health, which is a collaboration between the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College London. The editorial piece focuses on the impact mental health has across the globe and the need to find new ways to improve treatment for those affected.
The second piece is the June 2014 issue of World Psychiatry. The June 2014 issue is filled with great reads on mental health, but I want to point out some highlights to look out for. The article, "WHO's Mental Health Action Plan 2013-2020: What can psychiatrists do to facilitate its implementation?" looks at actions by different governments to place greater attention on mental health.
The second article to check out in World Psychiatry is called "New trends in assessing the outcomes of mental health interventions" by Graham Thornicroft and Mike Slade of King's College London. The article looks at the importance of interventions for mental health and aims to improve the questions doctors and researchers should think about when evaluating patients.
I recommend checking out these great reads for the latest information on global mental health!
