Social media outlets have been buzzing lately about a young woman's decision to move to one of the few states in the US in which a person can legally choose to end their own life with medical assistance.
Brittany Maynard, who is 29 years old and has terminal brain cancer, gave her first TV interview this morning. She is thoughtful, courageous and articulate in describing her decision. It is heartbreaking to watch, but at the same time, it is encouraging to see someone who is brave enough to openly talk about this with the rest of us. I encourage you to watch her story and make your own decisions.

As a two-time cancer survivor, and an advocate who works daily with people who have cancer, I have no problem understanding why she chose this path. What I do have a problem with is people who've never faced cancer, or any other life-threatening condition, who are judging this woman for making the most difficult decision of her young life.
