Lipstick and glosses are both go to products when getting dressed up for a night out, and they each can go hand in hand with each other when used properly. Some people may think that these two products are one in the same, but they are both actually quite different from each other. What is a Lipstick?
Lipstick is a colorant that is typically used by woman to enhance their facial appearance, and it comes in a solid form in a tube. It is made out of several ingredients such as wax (beeswax, ozokerite or candelilla wax), and it also contains anti-oxidants, and emollients. There are also different types of fats used such as olive oil, coco butter, lanolin, mineral oil and petrolatum. Companies also add either caster oil or pig fat to their lipsticks in order to give off the shiny appearance. If you are purchasing a matte lipstick there's more silica in these products, which act as a filling agent. Cream lipsticks contain more wax than other lipsticks, and sheer or long lasting lipsticks contain a lot of oil. The long lasting lipsticks also contain silicon oil in order to lock the colours onto the wearers lips.
What is a Lipgloss?
Lip gloss is a tinted finish for your lips that you can either apply after moisturizing your lips or you can apply it after putting on a lip stain. The purpose of gloss is to enhance the lips by giving them a pouty lustre appearance, and you can choose to have a gloss with a hint of colour or without. You can purchase this product in either liquid, gel or solid form, and it comes with the options of glitter, opaque, and metallic finishes. There are several different types of lip gloss, and it can be applied in several different ways. Some lip glosses provide an applicator wand, and others come in the form of squeezable tubes. Some lip glosses come in the form of lip plumper's, which often contain natural collagens and elastin in order to temporarily swell your lips to give your pucker the perfect pout. Lip glosses are designed to give a more natural look, so if you're purchasing a tinted gloss it should only be a subtle colouring.
How are these two products Different?
Lipstick is designed to appear as an unnatural colorant on your lips where it is clear that you have changed and enhanced your natural colour, whereas a gloss is designed to appear natural but at the same time give you a shiny glistening pucker. Lipstick should be saved for work, evening or any other time where you want to appear put together/done up, and gloss is meant more for a night out with the ladies when you are planning on complementing the look with a lovely smokey eye. Lipstick makes your lips appear more defined, and gloss makes your lips appear more full or pouty. Lipsticks tend to bleed into the fine lines of lips after awhile, and requires reapplication; however, gloss doesn't last too long either, and needs to be reapplied quite frequently throughout the day.
When picking between a gloss or a lipstick it all depends on the type of look you are trying to create because the lipstick will give you a put together defined professional look, while the gloss will give you a more natural, opaque appearance for a night out on the town. They both require reapplication after a couple hours unless you are drinking hot beverages, which will actually melt the wax in the lip stick or gloss; therefore, reapplication will need to be applied more frequently. Both products are beautiful, but when you should wear them is determined by the event or outing that you are attending.
