I'm 38, not pregnant, and have never had a problem with my period (always regular, never had cramps or pain). Last month, about 2 weeks before I expected my period, I noticed some blood when I wiped. About a week later I had to strain during a bowel movement and I noticed more bleeding form the vaginal area after (not from my rectum). So, I get a mirror and see a red tube-like tissue (like a spear head) protruding about a half-inch outside of my vaginal opening. The next morning it was not visible even when I spread my inner labia. It protruded again about five days before my period when I had an easy bowel movement. During this time I had a weird feeling or something slipping or even passing a clot (I did not pass any clot). It did protrude a little more, maybe 3/4 of an inch and I experienced more bleeding from the vaginal opening. The bleeding was reddish brown and not unlike a usual period. Laying down seemed to help the tissue recede a little. I thought maybe my period started early, but it appeared to start on time with my normal flow (starts light, 2nd day moderate with a few clots, then light). The tissue was visible every day during my 5 day period. Then it completely receded for about a week, even during bowel movements and urination. I could see nothing protruding from vaginal opening, no unusual bleeding.
And now, two weeks before my period, the same cycle is starting again. The tissue seems to be protruding slightly more, but the same amount of bleeding. I notice more bleeding when I squat down (not bend) like during exercise or chores.
I'm not experiencing any pain, constipation, or trouble urinating. I'm not on oral contraceptives and haven't used tampons in years. And again, I'm not pregnant; as all my internet research leads to pregnancy-related concerns.
So, any thoughts on what I'm dealing with will be greatly appreciated. I will be seeing my doctor in late January as I am away on a short-term contract.
