Homemade Recipe for a Stellar Natural Facial Scrub
There is a huge assortment of facial scrubs available on the market made for every imaginable skin type. The highest quality ones feature all-natural ingredients like nut oils, ground walnut shells and essential oils. However, while these scrubs may be very effective, their cost can be off-putting to most people. Not everyone is willing or able to spend tens of dollars of their hard-earned money just to exfoliate their skin with a quality product. Fortunately, it's quick and simple to create your own natural facial scrub at home for a fraction of the cost. What's even better is that you can customize it to meet your specific needs and tastes. Here is one such recipe that provides superb exfoliation while also rejuvenating your skin.
Papaya Pineapple Facial Scrub
In a blender, add the papaya, pineapple, coconut oil, honey, aloe and essential oil, if you've chosen to use it. Blend these ingredients until they're smooth, then pour them into a bowl. Mix in the brown sugar and it's ready to use.
Before using this scrub, it's strongly recommended that you moisten your skin with a damp cloth. Apply the scrub to your face and use your fingertips to gently massage it in for a few minutes. To finish, simply rinse your face with warm water and pat your skin dry.
It's important to note that using fresh papaya and pineapple are critical for this recipe. When raw, these fruits contain the protease (protein-digesting) enzymes papain, from the papaya, and bromelain, from the pineapple. These enzymes are not present in the fruit when it has been canned.
The enzymes in these fruits are fantastic exfoliators that will help break down the dead topmost layer of skin cells, much like a chemical peel. This reveals fresh new skin that is smoother and clearer than before. This scrub also makes a great mens facial cleanser. Men have tougher skin than women, which can make it more difficult to exfoliate. Furthermore, the enzymes will help soften facial hair and make shaving more comfortable.
The brown sugar contains molasses, which is rich in minerals that nourish the skin. Meanwhile, the sugar itself offers a gentle scrubbing action to help remove the dead skin cells that the pineapple and papaya loosened.
Although you can use any oil in your recipe, virgin coconut oil has a pleasant coconut aroma that combines with the pineapple to smell like a pina colada. The passion flower essential oil will add additional tropical notes should you choose to use it. Finally, the aloe vera gel and honey soothe and moisturize the skin. If you use raw honey, it also contains enzymes that will assist the pineapple and papaya in exfoliating and smoothing your skin.
