This came from a doctor friend of mine this morning when I was telling her about my mom being taken off her estradiol patch at 75 because Medicare won't cover it. How ridiculous is that? Too many studies showing you should stay on your hormones to death do you part. My mom was having cognitive issues, dizziness, balance issues and joint pain. Made me ask mom the question if she was still taking her hormones. That's when I found out Medicare wouldn't pay for it anymore. My mom is on a fixed income like a lot of people and she didn't think she could afford the patch. Well, here's what one doctor had to say about the estradiol patch and the poor women who don't know what to do. Here is her response to me.... Sure this will be helpful to lots of women who are dealing with insurance and their estradiol patches. She's a doctor that truly cares about her patients.

What doctors are doing to women in taking them off estrogen is criminal!
I wish I could reach more women with the message of crucial the estrogen is for so many functions, including overlooked things like balance and joint health. My patients in their 70s and 80s are doing fabulously well staying on E and T. It is so sad and upsetting to me that I can't reach more people with the current state of the art research. But at least I can still help a few. Our patients are telling me the generic by Sandoz is working well and comparable to Vivelle DOT-I have seen it and it is much better than that old Mylan one that was huge and thick and didn't stay on well. It is definitely worth trying. And people forget to check cash price at Walmart and COSTCO - when I tell our patients to do that, many (even Medicare patients with Part D drug plans) are finding that the CASH PAY price at one of those pharmacies is LESS than insurance co-pays. So it pays to check ALL of this. I hope that helps.
