We recently replaced our furnace and were shocked at the condition of the unit that had heated our home for over 25 years. Every time it kicked on, I would go into sneezing fits, feel as though my breathing was shallow and my chest tightened. While I may not have suffered from CO poisoning, the reactions I had are among the symptoms.
CO poisoning take the lives of more than 2000 unsuspecting victims, and 8,000 to 15,000 victims are treated in hospitals, every year in the USA. Would you be able to tell the difference between the flu and CO poisoning, or a feeling of exhaustion?
We're aware that we need smoke detectors placed throughout our homes. It is also important to install CO detectors if you have a gas furnace and/or gas stove.
