I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, and had trouble finding a concise listing of what treatment options were available to me. I seached many websites and each one had something, but not one website had all the treatment options available to me in one place.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer women have to decide whether or not to have a lumpectomy or mastectomy. if they opt for a lumbectomy they will have many choices of the type of radiation they could have. If they choose to have a mastectomy they will need to decide if they want immediate or delayed reconstruction. They have many reconstructiin options, some of which involve using their own body tissues or implants or even their own fat cells.
I have done research over the past year and have put together an outline with a thumbnail description of each option.
My purpose is to give women a synopsis of treatment options from which they can formulate the proper questions to ask their doctor based on their individual situation.
Not every woman is a candidate for the options listed on the outline- but at least they will become empowered because they will then know what is available to them. Women can then work with their doctors to have input in planning their own course of treatment for breast cancer.
