)A lump in your breast – this sounds like an easy one. Many women who feel something immediately make that appointment. Unfortunately a breast lump is also very scary and some women don’t want to know so they don’t follow up until it’s too late. Remember, not all breast lumps are cancer!

)A changing mole – you know that spot on your arm that is now darker? And bigger? Please make an appointment with your doctor. Have a body check when you go in for your annual exam to make sure you aren’t at risk for skin cancer.

)Chronic itching “down there” – could it be yeast? Maybe it’s a bacteria? What about a sexually transmitted infection? Get tested and get the appropriate treatment. Common over-the-counter yeast medications do not treat for bacteria or STI’s yet that is what many women reach for when things shift in the vagina.

)Bleeding when you shouldn’t – did you get a period post-menopausal? Do you spot between periods? Do you bleed after sex? Have you skipped a few periods altogether? These are all things that warrant further work-up. See your doctor.

)Blood in your stool – last time you had a bowel movement was their blood? Was it on the toilet paper or in the toilet? Assume you have hemorrhoids but you aren’t really sure? Have your doctor check it out to be safe.

Whether it’s you, a friend, or a family member that mentions these top 5 symptoms, please don’t hesitate to see your doctor and check-in. Take action and be empowered when it comes to your health.
