I too was interested in this subject and found a great website that provides some helpful hints with the Pap test vs. the HPV test.

It appears that the Pap tests are more inconclusive when it comes to detecting cancer and the HPV test provides better cancer detecting elements.
If I had a choice, I would prefer the HPV test.
