Elly,
I am perimenopausal as well and would like to try hormones, but the Dr. I see doesn't think I need them. He says I have nerve damage and physical therapy on the pelvic floor can help reverse it.
I'm not sure that he is right about not needing hormones. I am still getting my period regularly, but my pain becomes so much worse just before I get it that I think there must be a hormonal component. I also get hot flashes and have noticed an increase in vulvovaginal irritation while I have the flashes. Sometimes, diflucan helps my symptoms and sometimes it doesn't. I always think there is yeast involved but my cultures are almost always negative. I know very well what you are going through. Have you read that some doctors are now beginning to think that Vulvodynia may be a form of Fibromyalgia? I know what you are going through. Let's stay in touch through the empowerher website. I have aksed the author if the full vulvodynia story if I can call her and am waiting for a reply.
