I think it is great that you are trying to make people more aware of autism. With 1 and 150 children diagnosed with autism as parents or neighbors to these children I think it is our responsibility to know ways on help them grow up as "normal" and happily as possible.
Personally, I feel that we are institutionalizing a lot more individuals with autism than necessary. People are not familiar with how to deal with autistic people so instead of trying to learn what they could do to help the autistic person they send them away.
I recently read "Born on a Blue Day" by Daniel Tammet and "Thinking in Pictures" by Temple Grandin. They did not exactly have an easy life growing up with autism but they grew up and were able to learn how to cope with their own bodies and the world around them. Although there are still where they are uncomfortable in social situations and loud noises might still bother them, they live a relatively “normal” life. I do not think it is our right to put autistic people in institutions. We are not even giving people with autism a chance to experience the world.
