I think sibling rivalry is prefectly normal in kids and is even healthy, in some aspects, as long as it doesn't get out of control. Children close in age tend to be more competitive with their siblings because they often have the same interests and are reaching the same milestones at a similiar time.

You're right though, sibling rivalry should end at adulthood - certainly beyond the college years. Siblings by then should be friends - supportive, not competitive.

The only advice I can give someone who has an overly competitive adult sibling is to ignore the rivalry. They can't compete against someone who isn't competing back!
