It is great that you are going to a pedi dermatologist in a few weeks, and I understand the frustration of wanting to know something now (especially so that you are armed with information when you go to the doctor). My once-baby-boy is now an almost 2-year old toddler, and I know what it's like to try to find information on their conditions!
I found a picture of two different "skin tags", they are flesh-colored and can be "mole-like". Do either of these look or seem like what your little guy has? http://www.medicinenet.com/skin_tag/article.htm
I had skin tags and could barely see them (sounded like your description), however, it was after pregnancy (and fit the common cause of hormone fluctuation).
I'll keep looking for you...wanted to see what you thought about the skin tag possibility first...
