At the ripe old age of 21, and in relatively good health, I developed a mild case of shingles within a week of getting my flu shot this year*. I'm not saying "the flu shot causes shingles", but I wouldn't be surprised if it makes one more susceptible for a short time.
*Just as a side note, I had been vaccinated last year and several years before without incident.
