I do not have children but I do have a friend that has four. She has twin boys that are 12 now and they are definitely into the brand name clothes. They need to be cool, you know how it is. I think she has a really good idea when it comes to rearing her children. She makes them work for their money to buy the brand name clothes.
Cleaning the house, taking the garbage out and so forth. She makes them save for the name brand clothes they want and when they are ready, she takes them shopping. If they can only afford a shirt, then thats what they buy. Of course, they certainly try for the entire outfit but she tells them that they should have waited until they had enough money saved up to buy the entire outfit. She sticks to her guns about it also.
She has learned that with them buying their own things, they take better care of them and actually get upset when they get their new things dirty. BOYS, upset that they got dirty....sounds funny.
It may not work for everyone but it certainly works in her regimented household.
