I have a teenage daughter that is obsessive about sanitazing her hands. I think there are many people who are too hung up on being clean, but have not spent much time trying to understand the psychology behind it. My daughter's obsession comes from her phobia of germs (as she states it) It will be an interesting thing for me as a parent to try to understand the roots of her phobia. On the other hand my 12 year old son is the opposite and I literally have to chase him around the house to ensure he gets cleaned up, especially after playing with the dogs, coming back from a game, etc. Both kids, raised in the same household are totally opposite.

As for me, I try to keep a reasonable level of cleanliness. However, I always stay away from anti-bacterial soaps and prefer those made from natural ingredients. Since my husband is on a trach, we have no choice but to be very careful and make sure we maintain a fairly sterile area around him to avoid exposure to airborn germs or contamination.

I think I will look further into this to ensure my daughter is not becoming too obsessive at the expense of her own health...thanks!
