Strange. I was thinking about this one myself. I have several vivid, recurring dreams and as a child would frequently dream about birds' nests. (Random, right?) I also had dreams about a troll and Can-can dancers living under a bridge in what appeared to be some sort of Bavarian setting ... but I digress.

As you can imagine there are as many theories as to why we have recurring dreams as there are interpretations of dreams involving snakes.

Dr. Philip Muskin, a clinical psychologist at Columbia University addresses some common recurring dreams that seem driven by our suppressed emotional reactions to particular events throughout the course of our day or throughout the course of our lives.

To address your specific dream involving falling and flying -- Muskin says that those types of dreams are related to feeling out of control. Many of us repeatedly experience time in our lives where we feel fate or destiny has the upperhand. Does this ring true for you?

Here are some other common themes for recurring dreams and Muskin's interpretation of why we repeatedly have them:

Being chased: This is classified as an anxiety dream. It could reflect something during the day or it's a dream that taps from being a kid or being by chased by a parent.

Being naked in public: Fear of being vulnerable

Final exam dream: Missing an important event, feeling unprepared or hopeless.

Losing our teeth: The loss of something important

Have you ever noticed any commonalities in the events or your reaction to events before you have these dreams?
