I knew nothing about PPD when my oldest now 30, was born. I was labeled a "nervous mother" by the nurses at the hospital. Whether or not I experienced some level of PPD, I don't know, but I was fortunate to have had a lot of help with my children when they were young.
I hope that, with more attention given to PPD, unfortunately because of some tragic cases, doctors are learning to be proactive, rather than dismissive. We women have been treated very badly by doctors who would rather slap a bandaid on the wound than find and treat the cause of the injury.
