Over the past year or so I have used compounded progesterone capsules, and especially when I was taking quite a lot, it did indeed have a very sedating effect, but I loved it because I was taking the progesterone at night and it helped me to fall asleep and it calmed me down. I have always suffered from anxiety and hot flashes made the anxiety 100 times worse. As I read and studied, I found that there are many, many wonderful effects from in particular the compounded bioidentical progesesterone----it also dilates the vessels or whatever---I cut back to less blood pressure medication because it made my bp go down so much. After lots of experimentation and testing I am now back on generic activella which I had taken for 9 years and had great results----obviously my body has changed because I am also trying estriol compounded cream which my doctor prescribed and now some compounded estriol drops as well to finally get rid of the hot flashes, panic attacks, nausea etc which have been going on. But yup---progesterone can be very sedating. I am only trying a 200 mg capsule so it is not so much. But I think you could take it at night. From what I understand it is just important to take whatever hormones I am taking at the same time each day. So maybe try that---ask your doctor, but it felt wonderful for me. It is really a question of experimentation and balance. It has taken my doctor and me over two years to find out what works to give me my life back.
