Unfortunately, Natasha Richardson died today.

My older son suffered a head injury after a fall from a little stepladder, when he was just a toddler, and it frightened the dickens out of us. We took him to ER and the doctors said he was fine. But, with a toddler, anything can be scary.

I hit my head hard on the ice when I fell during a practice while wearing rented skates that weren't well-maintained. I can still distinctly remember how that felt, and I know I had a few other problems after that. But, I didn't think I needed a doctor at the time and remember being more concerned about when my own skates that I had ordered were going to be ready so that I wouldn't have to deal with the rentals anymore. I had to undergo physical therapy for a torn rotator cuff that wasn't apparent until a few days later. And, this happened only a few years ago.

My younger sister suffered a head injury in a bad car accident and hasn't been quite right since. She did incur a brain injury and exhibits irrational behavior, at times.

The brain is a mysterious organ we still don't fully understand.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Natasha Richardson's family for their sudden and tragic loss.
