1. In most industrialized countries, it is illegal to make a profit on health care. We are 37th on the World Health Organizations list from 2000, in rankings on healthcare. I'm sure we are in a worse position now. Yes, we're better off than Uzbekistan, Mozambique and Somalia, but seriously...
2. Everyone will pay something just like we pay for your medicare, others' medicaid, veterans' and civil servants' and teachers' benefits, with our tax dollars. Right now 60% of health care dollars are paid by the government. And a lot of that money goes to profit, CEO bonuses etc. Remember the outrage over $175 MILLION for AIG bonuses? I was amazed. People don't realize that it's billions in unjust compensation for the health insurance companies. This has to end. The government will not run your health care, they will just run the health insurance companies out of business.
3. Think about what happened when Enron helped write energy policy. That's what is happening right now. HIPA is in bed with some members of Congress writing this so-called health care reform, and those who are going to vote against any public option, much less single payer. And they are not about to write themselves out of billions of dollars.
To me it's simple, do the math. Then look at who benefits. Then look at who loses. All the moral imperatives suggest that we fix this now. Do no harm. Heal the sick. In sickness and in health. The good Samaritan. Where are the Christians when you need them?
