I am not in a situation yet to care for an aging parent but I think either question you raise will certainly be true. It is hard to understand that the people that have always raised us as children will one day be children themselves and need to be cared for either by the children or a facility.

There will be hard questions and borderline invasion of personal space. It is certainly a hard situation to deal with on either end. A friend of mine has a Mother who was diagnosed with brain cancer in which they gave her 3 months to live about 2 months ago. The tumors in her brain are rapidly growing and she is completely cared for by the family at this time as well as a downfall into dementia. My friend is 30 years old and her Mother asked her yesterday if she enjoyed her 8th grade trip to Washington D. C. and if her father had packed her warm clothes. She told her Mother that she had a wonderful time and that her father packed everything she needed. She cried as she walked away but none the less, she agreed with her Mother. These are hard times but I think caring for aging parents is necessary and even important.

Let the parent set up a hippie commune. It may be fun!
