Anon, are you asking about conditions where you may have a high white blood cell count?

Have you or someone close to you had a blood test recently and been told you have a high WBC count?

We have red blood cells in our bodies and white blood cells. Our white blood cells fight infection in our bodies. When they get too low, we get sick more easily. When they are high, it can be for several reasons:

-- Anemia
-- Infectious diseases
-- Inflammatory disease (such as rheumatoid arthritis or allergy)
-- Leukemia
-- Severe emotional or physical stress
-- Tissue damage (for example, burns)

Also, medicines can sometimes cause an imbalance of white and red blood cells in the body.

What have you been told about this condition?

Here's a page that explains white blood cells and their importance:

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003643.htm

Does that help at all? Can you be more specific about what you need to know?
