Hi Lauren,

It is a waiting game...you're right! It's the very reason the "OPKs" (ovulation predictor kits) use the word "predictor" in the title...they are not 100% conclusive, and are true to their name ("prediction"): an advance indicator of when you are most likely to begin ovulation, or are currently ovulating.

Same goes with taking your basal body temperature. There are many factors that can cause tiny fluctuations in your temperature, and this method also does not claim to pinpoint ovulation with much accuracy.

The reason to use the ovulation predictor kits, track cervical mucus (CM) and/or take basal temperature for a few months before actively trying to conceive is for information gathering purposes only; not to exactly pinpoint ovulation each cycle. In information gathering, you are looking for trends, over time, that can assist in your knowing about the time you probably ovulate each cycle.

Good luck, and have fun "trying" to conceive! :)
