That's really not so unusual; it used to happen to me, too. I'd have a really heavy period one month, and a spotty one like you described the next. It sounds like you might simply have some residue that hasn't been completely expelled. I used to use a vinegar-based douche and that would take care of the problem.
If you experience spotting next month that doesn't quite seem right, do ask your gynecologist about it.
