It also sounds like there's a very good chance that if the young boy in your story had an eyesight problem, the dad's interference might have kept that problem from being discovered and treated. I feel a bit of sympathy for that little boy, because I already imagine him being yelled at from the sidelines on the soccer field or berated because he got a B in math instead of an A. Clearly the dad had himself wrapped up in the little boy's test results to the point that if the child didn't do well, the dad felt it also reflected on him. That's such an easy trap to fall into, but such an unneccessary one. I hope it was just a bad day for the dad, too. =)
