Tubal ligation cuts the fallopian tubes that allow the egg to travel from the ovary to the uterus. Your tubes are "cut" so the egg can't travel nor can the sperm reach it. The monthly shedding of menstrual blood would continue until you reach menopause. Go back to your doctor and see what they say and they can run some tests to see that things are okay.
