You are correct, sperm can live inside of your body for up to 1 week, taking your chances and assuming that you are not fertile is not a very responsible thing to do, however. Women are all different, some women have conceived during their periods and there is no safe time of the month to have unprotected sex.
The point I'm trying to make with you is that yes, your chances of being pregnant may not be as likely as someone who has just had full penetration during the middle of her cycle but you cannot perform sexual activities irresponsibly. Eventually they may lead to an unwanted pregnancy.
