I am so glad that I have seen this blog as I believe it has saved me! I am a 37 year old woman in the UK who had the Mirena coil fitted 2 Weeks ago (made by Bayer) . After 3 days of it being fitted I started experiencing breathlessness which lead on to me having sporadic chest pains under my left breast in the area of my heart which worsened. I then noticed that I was waking at 2am in the morning every night with strong heart palpitations and generally an irregular heart beat where one minute my heart was racing and the next is was slowing down this happened every night without fail for 2 weeks constantly. I cut out caffeine and alcohol, neither of which made any difference whatsoever. I have never ever had any problems with my heart or chest so this was really quite frightening. I went to the GP with my symptoms after 1 week and was sent to hospital for tests. I had blood tests to check my Thyroid (one reason why we can experience heart palpitations) and 4 ECG's - they couldn't find anything. 4 days later the situation was worsening to the degree I was having panic attacks and anxiety and my heart palpitations were so bad that I was not sleeping at all between 2am- 6am and my heart felt like it was coming out of my chest. I actually Googled "Mirena coil and heart palpitations" and found this blog and many other blogs with accounts from many women having the same experiences. I called my Gynaecologist and she immediately agreed to remove it. It was removed on Saturday and the following night my heart palpitations had more or less stopped.. I am 2 days after having it removed and my symptoms have more or less disappeared but I can only stress that if you are experiencing these symptoms just get the Merina coil removed. there is no sign of this as a side effect on the leaflet and they have obviously not done any tests to explore why this happens. I hope that all will be well and my symptoms will be cured completely.. good luck to all of you but I stress, please get it taken out if you start experiencing heart palpitations- it could save your life!
