I do think age is more "attitude" than just a "number". Many women are now choosing to start families later in life than previous generations, as the goals have changed for many women: they want to first achieve higher education degrees, professional jobs, traveling...then marriage and children...and this easily puts first-time moms in the age range of mid-30s to mid-40s.

From my personal experience, most of my circle-of-mom-friends are in their 30s & 40s and are first-time moms; the one woman who is 28 feels like she is the "young one", so age is all relative! Do you have other women friends who are in their late 30s/early 40s and are first-time moms? (Do you have other children, or is this your first child?).

It would be interesting to hear your answers to the questions asked previously: how does your partner feel about a new baby, or are you planning to raise the baby alone? Who is this "everybody" that will be ashamed of you? Do you have other family & friends who will be excited and happy for you? Are YOU ashamed of you, and thinking "everybody" else will be as well? And, why that word choice...what is shameful about having a baby with two consenting adults?

I hope you change your perspective on your age; 40 is hardly considered "old", unless you are keeping company with people who are in their teens! Many women feel like they don't really know themselves until they reach their 40s...and what a great mom this woman makes! A confident woman, who has had some real-life experiences so doesn't feel like she's "missing out" (all stereotypes, but I'm just trying to share the other side: a mom having a baby at 40 compared to a 20 year old has some advantages!). Every-age mom has it's advantages and disadvantages, so please take time to enjoy the GREAT aspects of being 40 and a new mom, compared to how you were at a younger age!
