I have been going through hell like many of you and I have a very similar thing.
I am male. I turned 30 this year in October.
My story: around October 1st I noticed a dry spot in the corner of my eye (I am writing this 4 months later.). I figured this was because of the hundreds of eyedrops I had been using from very dry eyes only while sleeping.
I started using petrolium jelly (have not used eyedrops since) for a month but the spot got larger moving to my entire eyelid and slightly down the side of my nose. (Eventually it appeared on what i'd describe as a racing stripe on my other eyelid.)
I started searching online and tried different things, but it got so bad I eventually had to go to my dr who prescribed a steroid cream. After 2 weeks it went away but soon as I stopped it came right back. It got worse, and I had an appt already setup with an opthalmologist. He saw nothing wrong internally and gave me a stronger steroid cream. Again it healed in 2 weeks but soon as i stopped it came right back worse! I made an emergency appt with a dermatologist who gave me protopic because I feared continual use of steroids. He also gave me an internal prednisone. The predinsone I think gave me chest pain (which stopped a week after that treatment, but only after heart attack fears). The protopic healed me within 2 weeks as before, but soon as I stopped it all came back worse. The 2nd visit to the dermatologist he didn't know and just told me to treat it as eczema. I continued research online having to call in sick to work a couple times it was so bad (I had to go back to steroid cream). I have been now thinking I have psoriasis because it spread to other parts of my body. I have always had dry skin and acne now adult acne. I also had a stressful year so I've been remaining stress free as possible. The more I research the more complex this gets and I have not figured it out yet. I am searching for a good doctor since none seem to care about me. even though doctors suck we still need them. I have also been severely limiting my diet in desperation. I also have been sleeping at my other apartment with ski goggles on and a hooded sweatshirt with long underwear and my body coated in lotion. The ski goggles helped a lot so I rinsed all my bedding and clothes 6 times thinking a detergent. No change.
I am now thinking I may not have psoriasis but some food allergy. I have been eating salad a LOT, and the only things I eat now are salad, beans, blueberries and raisins. That's it!!
I was however using probably a wheat tortilla with my salad to make a wrap for one week. I have added a food journal to my medicine and routine journal.
The other symptoms that have slowly arrived. Dry itchy patches of skin on my neck, shoulder, under my knee, my scalp is VERY itchy. The skin all over my legs is now getting itchy and sensitive, and around my groin genitals. benedryl did nothing, and the psoriasis shampoo doesn't seem to do anything. I refrain from itching at all costs but it's hell. The other symptom that has put the puzzle together. Many years ago I got these bumps all over my fingers that had clear liquid, and were very itchy. I could not get rid of them for 5 years then suddenly they went away. They have been slowly returning and now i'm noticing the same thing or similar bumps on the other parts of my problem areas.
This is starting to make sense to being a wheat, gluten, dairy or all three combination allergy or intolerance. My problem with my dry eyes that had been getting worse last year I was trying to be more healthy over the past year. Experimenting with things like trying to be more healthy (including more wheat products maybe into my diet) might have been the cause of all of this. (I can only hope) My only guess at this point is that over the past year this intolerance slowly built up and even with my extremely limited diet, it might take a long while to rid it of my body. I am scared, but fighting it at all costs. My life has been basically nothing but fighting this for the past 2-3 months at least. I have developed extreme compassion for people going through these problems, especially psoriasis.
My scalp has been not as itchy the past couple days since I got rid of the tortillas, but I had soy sauce the other night that I jsut found out has wheat which I did have a bad night after that and my scalp is now dry and flaking. I can't tell if i'm getting any better or worse anymore. I am looking for an internist, allergist, nose throat ear, general practice, dermatologist, family doctor all in one. good luck right? lol It's so hard going to doctors still when they have been of no help, doctors suck but we still need them.
After my research tonight I am definitely going to look for an allergist asap at least.
