I do believe that Lynette Fromme still poses a risk just based on past behavior while in prison. I don't really understand why, on the other hand, Leslie Van Houten, isn't being released. Do you have any additional insight on that? I think that it could have been a combination of mental illness, environmental/upbringing factors as well as Manson's influence that caused the girls to do what they did.

I have no doubt that even really serious offenders can be rehabilitated successfully while in prison and re-enter society. I've seen it happen when I covered a newspaper story on this topic and got to know ex-convicts who had completely turned their lives around, even after being in prison for 40 years. As far as these individual women go, I don't know enough about them to guess if they're able to be back in society or not. In any case, it's such a tragic story. I think that with just the right mix of circumstance, impulsivity and basic bad luck, there are a lot of seemingly "good" people who are capable of committing a serious crime.
