It sounds like you did everything right--you were not using hormonal contraception any longer, and used a condom. However, it sounds like your husband did not withdraw his penis quick enough (while it was still erect) and/or did not hold the base of the condom tightly enough...so the condom leaked some. (sorry..that sounded like I was blaming him, and I'm not! This is common for many couples!). So, taking Plan B is the next smart step.

As you mentioned, Plan B does have side effects of effecting your period for a few cycles; it can cause your period to start earlier or later than expected. It can also cause breakthrough bleeding, which is bleeding in-between periods. Taking Plan B is great in helping to prevent pregnancy when other birth control fails, but it makes it difficult to know when you had your "real" period so you can stop worrying about being pregnant!

Since your LMP (last menstrual period) was April 1st, and this is now May 13th, you would have expected your period by now. So, any home pregnancy test would be about 99% accurate at detecting any "pregnancy hormones" if you were pregnant.

The bleeding that occurred a week after you took Plan B may have been an early period, or it may have been breakthrough bleeding. Your next menstrual period may also be irregular and "off" schedule, with or without your usual PMS.

Does this information help? You can be fairly confident in the test results from your home pregnancy test since you have taken it AFTER you would have already expected your period, and it has been over 3 weeks since your last sexual intercourse with birth control that may have failed.
