Oh, I just re-read your question and you said after your period ENDS that it usually takes 23 days for another period. The way that cycles are counted is this:
1. "Day 1" is the first day of your period
2. the remaining days (Day 2 through ???) are counted (21-35 days is within normal range), until your next period.
3. The first day of your next period is, again, "Day 1".
4. Whatever number you came up with for Step 2 is the number of days in your cycle.
Does that make sense? You don't count the number of days in between periods, but you also count the days you are on your period. For example, if your non-bleeding days is 23 days as you mentioned, and your last period lasted 5 days, then you would have had a 28-day cycle.
