Thank you for your question. Missing your pill can also cause irregular bleeding since when you start taking the placebo pills, your body will release eggs. So this may be one cause of your bleeding.

There is also the chance for pregnancy when you have unprotected sex but since you missed pills, I would be partial to think that it is probably the missed pills. Implantation bleeding would not really look like a period. It would be more of a pinkish color or brownish discharge.
If you have any concern, stop by a local pharmacy, drug store or dollar store and pick up a pregnancy test to be sure. This may settle the nerves too.
Do you often miss your pills? I know that I was the worst pill taker and I had to conform to a new birth control method that I didn't need to remember (everyday). There are several other forms of birth control that may be helpful to keep you guarded without having to remember everyday.
