It is true that some women may experience bleeding during a pregnancy, and if it is being routinely examined by a doctor, this can be normal.
It is not possible for women to have a true menstrual period during a pregnancy, however, and I question having "many friends" who bled during pregnancy, as it is rare and must be monitored. Many women find it easier to just say they are having their period, rather than describe in depth how they are having some bleeding or spotting during pregnancy.
