Hi, StayingPumped,

It sounds as though you may be experiencing some hormonal issues, with the night sweats, mood swings and extremely irregular periods. You most likely need an ob/gyn that has a lot of experience with these types of things.

Of course, word of mouth is one great way to get new doctor recommendations. If you work outside the home, are there women in your office who think their gynecologist is wonderful? Get those doctors' numbers and start from there.

If you are somewhere that you don't have a lot of contacts, you might start with two things: the phone book and the web. Start by looking on the web for gynecologists in your area. Many large practices now have websites where you can see the entire office staff and read bios of the doctors themselves.

You probably want a larger practice rather than a smaller one. In a larger practice, the doctors have more ability to leave the practice for updated training. In smaller practices, that is a lot tougher to do.

When you call an office, ask the receptionist, "Which doctor has the most experience with hormonal issues in young women?" and see if there is someone that specializes in that office.

What city and state do you live in, Anon?
