Hi anon,

It is common for women to be late, or even miss, a period. The mucus you spotted is normal--women actually have vaginal discharge (cervical mucus) throughout their cycle, and it changes in color and texture depending on what part of the cycle you are in (and, if you are on hormonal contraception).

Brown spotting could be "breakthrough bleeding" (are you on the pill or any form of hormonal birth control?), or it could have been a super-light menstrual period. Spotting is no cause for alarm, and bleeding can occur after sexual intercourse (as long as there is no pain, and just spotting that is slight).

The only way to know for sure if you are pregnant is to take a home pregnancy test. You did not provide any information regarding if you had unprotected sex, if you are on birth control, or other factors that would contribute (potentially) to a pregnancy. Either way, the only way to know is to take a test...they are about 99% accurate at detecting any "pregnancy hormone" once you've missed your expected period.

Please let us know the test results, and if you have any further questions!
