The reasoning behind being able to eat white bread and no wheat is because a bland diet consists of foods very low in fiber-- hence the no wheat. Apples can be eaten, just skinned off.

Here is a list of foods that can be consumed in a bland diet-- hope it helps:

Cream of Wheat
White Rice
Mashed potatoes
Cooked Pasta
Saltine Crackers
White Bread
AppleSauce
Fruits-- without the skins
Banana
Mashed/cooked veggies without seeds or stems
Carrots
Green beans
Celery
Cottage cheese
Ice cream (no nuts)
Slice of mild cheese
Plain yogurt
2 tbsp peanut butter
Egg
Fish
Turkey
Chicken
Tofu

Water, mild teas, and low-acid juices such as apple, pear, and grape can be drank as
much as you'd like. Do not drink caffeinated beverages.

Also, try to eat small portions of each at a time. So if you're going to have chicken and veggies, try to consume 1/2 cup of each. Eating too much at once can upset your stomach.
